About JUPI USA

We, Puerto Ricans in the United States, have united under the common objective of genuine democracy for Borinquen against the colonial status of the archipelago perpetuated by the United States. We want to see the overthrow of US imperialism, which is the highest stage of capitalism, in Puerto Rico and replace it with an independent Puerto Rico with a socialist perspective.

Juventud Unida Por la Independencia (JUPI) started as a chapter of the Boricua Resistance national alliance. In 2023, members of JUPI realized the need to forge a new direction of advancing a national mass movement that mobilizes the Puerto Rican youth and student sector toward an independent Puerto Rico with a socialist perspective. We believe the youth and student sectors are integral to advancing the overall fight for emancipation from the United States and achieving true democracy in our homeland.

Our Guiding Principles

  • Independence with a Socialist Perspective

JUPI commits to fighting for independence for Puerto Rico with a socialist society, free from imperialist activity and devoid of racism, machismo, and violence against all peoples.

The current capitalist system, especially one that the U.S imposes over the Puerto Rican people, trades an adequate provision of essential resources and services for the exploitation of the workers and the land.

Additionally, to administering these resources in a way that respects the dignity of the people and the land.

  • International Solidarity

JUPI understands that the socialist struggle for Puerto Rican liberation from U.S. imperialism is not confined to the archipelago, but is a part of a larger global problem.

JUPI knows the exploitation of the Puerto Rican working-class funds the subjugation of the working-class communities in other nations and vice versa.

The devotion to securing victory for the international anti-imperialist movement informs our dedication to a militant youth and student mass movement that operates in unwavering solidarity with the anti-imperialist struggles of the people internationally.

  • Puerto Rican Youth and Students as Integral to The Struggle Regardless of Birthplace

JUPI firmly upholds that displaced Puerto Ricans within the diaspora and their descendants, alongside those still living within the archipelago, form part of a nation that the United States has divided in its desire to convert Puerto Rico into a banquet for the wealthy.

We are committed to supporting the building of a militant youth and student mass movement as an integral part of a shared, global Puerto Rican struggle against U.S. imperialism.

  • Liberation as a Human Right by Any Means Necessary

JUPI affirms that oppressed peoples worldwide have the right to liberate themselves from all forms of oppression by any means necessary as a response to inherently violent situations put forth by the ruling class.

Asking for permission to be free has never achieved freedom. The revolutionary history of Puerto Rican struggle, spanning from enslaved Taíno and African revolts to the clandestine activity of The Macheteros, have demonstrated that the people will always engage in militant, violent struggle against their oppressors.
